Every one of us has an idea or belief about what we need to do in order to feel as if we belong somewhere and are significant in life. Seeking attention, feeling egotistical or superior, vengeful-ness, and flat-out aloof or discouraged are all things we see in adults as well as children.

It takes time and patience. It’s important that you don’t beat yourself up and just let things unfold naturally. The best way to change yourself is with curiosity, awareness, and lots of grace. Applying extra pressure, letting your inner voice dominate, and comparing will not help you as you begin to change directions. Trust that changing the way you deal with relationships will inevitably change your mistaken goals.
